Ethiopia's government has expelled two Arabs who flew in from the Middle East after the pair went to a mosque and tried to incite violence, an official said Saturday.
The two men visited Addis Ababa's Grand Anwar Mosque on Friday and disseminated materials and made inflammatory statements, said Shimeles Kemal, state minister of communications.
"The Ethiopian government found them to be persona non grata and they were immediately deported," he said. The men's nationalities were not made public.
The deportations come one week after security forces arrested a Muslim religious leader in the Oromia region accused of radical statements. A group of Muslims tried to free the imam and clashed with police. Four of the demonstrators were killed and 10 police were wounded, Shimeles said.
"A number of suspects are in police custody. The elders in the community there have helped contain the situation and it remains peaceful since the incident," Shimeles added.
The country's Federal Ministry on Thursday issued a statement accusing the unnamed group of trying to declare jihad against the government and incite violence in a number of mosques across the country. The statement said a dozen suspects were recruited by the group from the country’s Oromia, Tigray and Amhara regions to carry out illegal activities are now in police custody.
Prime Minister Meles Zenawi on April 17 told the country's parliament that a few Salafis formed clandestine al-Qaida cells in the Arsi and Bale zones of the country's southeastern region and are trying "to erode the age-old tradition of tolerance between traditional Sufi Muslims and Christians in Ethiopia."
Ethiopia borders Somalia, where al-Shabab militants have pledged allegiance to al-Qaida.
More than half of Ethiopians are Christian. About a third are Muslim.

Ethiopian Muslims protest government 'interference'

ADDIS ABABA - On the outskirts of Addis Ababa, a muezzin leads a solemn sermon at a mosque before thousands of worshippers stamp their feet to protest against what they say is the Ethiopian government's interference in religious affairs.

Protests are uncommon in tightly-controlled Ethiopia, and the unrest has caused concern in the predominantly Christian nation that takes pride in centuries of coexistence.

The government fears hardline Islam is taking root in the Horn of Africa country, which has long been seen by the West as a bulwark against militant Islam in neighbouring Somalia.

"We are observing tell-tale signs of extremism. We should nip this scourge in the bud," Prime Minister Meles Zenawi told parliament last month.

The protesters accuse Meles' government of interfering by seeking to impose the beliefs of a little-known sect as doctrine. They say the government is promoting the Al Ahbash, an Islamic movement that opposes ultra-conservative ideology and rejects violence.

The protesters broadly say they adhere to moderate Sufi-inspired values and not the ultra-conservative Salafist interpretation of Islam.

"Call me a terrorist but I will defend my religion," said the muezzin in his sermon, denouncing the Al Ahbash movement.

Since the beginning of the year, demonstrations have taken place on an almost weekly basis in mosques throughout the capital, and more are expected. The London-based Control Risks group said this week Ethiopia's security forces might come down hard on any further protests, based on the government's past responses to unrest.

Meles has dismissed claims his government is imposing the sect as an official doctrine. He said Islamic hardliners are "peddling ideologies of intolerance" throughout the country, but that it was difficult to prosecute them as they are preaching within their rights inside mosques.

Any attempt to exploit sectarian divides has the potential to destabilize Africa's second most populous country, which is 60 percent Christian and 30 percent Muslim.

RELIGIOUS CRACKDOWN?

Also known as the Association of Islamic Charitable Projects, Al Ahbash was founded in the early 1980s by Sheikh Abdullah al Harrari, an Ethiopian cleric who was forced to leave his country for Lebanon in 1950.

According to Abubeker Ahmed, an Ethiopian Muslim activist and head of an independent Islamic arbitration committee, the protesters are lamenting what they see as efforts to impose the sect, rather than the sect itself.

He says the appointed leadership of Ethiopia's Islamic Affairs Supreme Council was not representative of the country's Muslim community.

"It (Al Ahbash) has the right to exist in Ethiopia, but it is unacceptable that the Council . tries to impose it on all members of the Muslim community," Ahmed told Reuters. He said the government wanted to prevent a vote to elect a new council and replace the decade-old one.

"They (the government) want to keep them because they agree to whatever orders," he said.

What sparked the protests in the Ethiopian capital, activists said, was the Islamic Council's dismissal of several teachers at the Awoliya institute - a move they said signalled the government's determination to crack down on groups it believes poses a threat to stability. The institute's college and an Arabic language learning centre have also been shut down.

Some demonstrators told Reuters an imam seized by police in the Oromiya region last month was arrested for attempting to whip up support for protests in the southern province. Officials say he was detained on suspicion of preaching hardline Islamic thinking.

Some protesters say the government's strategy might backfire, sowing the seeds of the hardline Islam it seeks to keep at bay.

"We are against any sort of extremism ourselves, we want to stop such thinking," said Ahmed Mustafa, secretary of the independent arbitration panel.

David Shinn, a former U.S. ambassador to Ethiopia, applauded Meles' track record on religious affairs.

"The government has done a pretty good job over the years in ameliorating religious differences where there are potentially serious conflicts among Orthodox, Protestant ... and Muslims," said Shinn.

The Christian land of Ethiopia has defended itself from the most dangerous and cruel ideology of Mussolini – Fascism – and, in the same way, it can protect her Christian children by any means and at any cost from the most hated and feared doctrine of Islam – Jihadism – which is being waged in the Christian land of Ethiopia by the offspring of the false Prophet Muhammad – the Muslims in Ethiopia.

The Muslims in Ethiopia are now showing their determinations to takeover the Christian kingdom of Ethiopia by protecting their secrecy, by avoiding detection from the Christian government whose primary purpose is to protect the safety of its citizens from the terrorist Ethiopian Muslims, and by accusing the Christian government for interfering in their treasons to overthrow the Christian government.

Nothing can be furthered from the truth that the Ethiopian Jihadist Muslims, from the time they set their foot on the Christian land of Ethiopia in the 7th century, have been devising or planning a strategy how to destroy the Ethiopian Christian kingdom with the help of foreign powers such as Sudan, Somalia, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. They waited patiently for almost 1400 years until their number grows and outnumbers the Ethiopian Christian population.

Their first strategy was to assassinate the Christian Emperor, Emperor Yohannes, which they successfully did, but they didn’t overthrow the Ethiopian Christian kingdom. Their second strategy was to support Gragn Muhammad, who destroyed many Ethiopian Churches and monasteries, and still their second strategy didn’t succeed. Their third strategy, after Gragn Muhammad was killed in the battle field was to produce millions of Muslim children, each Muslim man impregnating hundreds of women and having hundreds of Muslim children every day. And their third strategy is one of the best ones, and it is working. We see them now coming out from their Friday prayers in thousands, if not in millions, and demonstrating against the Ethiopian Christian government not to interfere in whatever they do in their hiding place – the Mosque.

The Ethiopian Christian government may stop few thousands of Muslims from marching in the city of Addis Ababa, but it can hardly stop millions of Ethiopian Muslim Jihadists from marching in every towns and cities of the Christian land of Ethiopia. The Ethiopian Christian kingdom may have about one million Christian soldiers, but this small number cannot stop the over 30 million Ethiopian Jihadist Muslims from marching, or, even worst, from destroying every Christian churches and monasteries. I am not sure, the few Ethiopian Christian soldiers are just pure Christians; there may be some Muslim soldiers mixed up with the Christian soldiers. It is proven that Muslims are more likely to kill any person who does not support their religion – Islam. And when such a large Muslim demonstration is taking place by thousands of Ethiopian Muslim Jihadists, these few Ethiopian Muslim soldiers may turn their back and join the Jihadist Ethiopian Muslim demonstrators and bring a lot of bloodshed in the Christian holy land of Ethiopia.

They waited and waited, and waited until the right time, and the right time for these Ethiopian Jihadist Muslims is now. They know they have the number; they know they have the money, thanks to the Arab Muslim world; they know they have the support of the United States President, Barack Hussein Obama, who repeatedly glorify Islam as a great religion, and who has said nothing about the slaughters of the Nigerian Christians by the Jihadist Muslims, and they know the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church has been weakened by its internal division that will further put her under the Ethiopian Jihadist Muslims’ control.

Therefore, the Ethiopian Christian government has many options to act now and act decisively:

1. Stop the growth of the Muslim population in Ethiopia by ordering the Ethiopian Muslim women to follow the Chinese method of controlling the birth rate (one child policy for one family).
2. Implement the old and cruel Egyptian policy if the Ethiopian Muslim women failed to follow the one-child Chinese policy.
3. Expel those Ethiopian Muslims who have more than one wife.
4. Reward the Ethiopian Christian woman who has more than five children and help her sons and daughters to go to school.
5. Encourage the millions of Ethiopian young monks to get married and have children.
6. Destroy the Grand Mosque in Addis Ababa and built on its spot a big cathedral for St. Mary, the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ.
7. Never allow any rich Ethiopian Muslim, such as Al Amoudi, to build any Mosque in any place in Ethiopia.
8. Convert all Mosques in Ethiopia into schools, hospitals, and Churches.
9. Close all Muslim schools in the Christian land of Ethiopia and allow Muslim children to go to Christian schools.
10. End the use of the Arabic language, the language of the Ethiopian Jihadist Muslims.
11. Extirpate all the Ethiopian Muslim holidays that are almost overshadowing the real Christian Holydays.
12. Dilapidate all Islamic symbols on any building or on any Muslim homes and burn all the Qurans and the Hadith that have been brought to the Christian land of Ethiopia.
13. Declare a great feast for the burning of the Quran and for the destruction of the Muslim Mosques in the Christian land of Ethiopia.

Such heroic actions will minimize terrorism, humiliate Jihadist Muslims, and stifle the growth of terrorist Muslims in the Christian land of Ethiopia. If the Christian government of Ethiopia tolerates the every Friday Muslim demonstration, it is putting the entire Ethiopian Christian population in great danger. This illegal Jihadist Muslim demonstration will bring the entire Arab-Muslim Jihadists into the Christian land of Ethiopia and set afire the entire Ethiopian population. The Tunisian Muslim uprising, the Egyptian Muslim uprising, the Libyan Muslim uprising, and now the Syrian Muslim bloodiest uprising are good examples for the Christian government of Ethiopia. Once the Ethiopian Muslims are in power, they will immediately put their Sharia law into action, and within a few days, we will see thousands of disfigured Ethiopian citizens: some losing their hands; some losing their legs, and some losing even their lives because of the sharia barbaric law.

To avoid such uncivilized Islamic government on the Christian land of Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Christians must support the Ethiopian Christian government, whether they like it or not, to put down the Ethiopian Islamist Jihadist movement. It is much, much better to live under the current government for one-hundred years than to live under an Islamist government even for one day!

This is my message to those few Church leaders in exile for supporting the Ethiopian Jihadist illegal movement:

With all my heart-felt respect to those Church leaders of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church in exile and especially to Abune Melke Tsadik, secretary of the exiled Church, I am stunned and bewildered to hear from one of these magnanimous shepherds of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church that they are calling upon the Ethiopian Christians at home and abroad to rise up and support the illegal uprising of the Ethiopian Jihadist Muslims against the Ethiopian Christian government.

Do they know these Ethiopian Jihadist Muslims have been historically the relentless enemies of the Christian Church in Ethiopia? Have they easily forgotten the betrayals of these Ethiopian Jihadist Muslims against the Ethiopian Christians during those unforgettable predicaments when the terrorist Gragn Muhammad, supported by the Ethiopian Muslims and by the Turkish mercenary soldiers, was creating havoc to the Ethiopian Christians by burning their Churches and their monasteries?

The history of Gragn Muhammad may be the history of the past that can be easily forgotten, but we cannot forget the burning of Christian Churches, Christian schools, and the confiscations of the Christian properties and the lose of Christian lives by the Jihadist Ethiopian Muslims in the Oromia region and in some other parts of the Christian land of Ethiopia.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church in exile and at home should not be deceived by the Ethiopian Muslim mob’s demonstration that has been taking place every Friday in the Christian land of Ethiopia. Financed and supported by the Saudi Wahhabis and the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhoods, the Ethiopian Muslims have a hidden agenda other than their oppositions against the government interference on their Islamic religious affairs.

Their hidden agenda includes the complete destruction of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church whom they always detest and abhor from their hearts throughout the Ethiopian Christian history since these Ethiopian Muslims settled in the Christian land of Ethiopia during the 7th century of the Christian era. These Ethiopian Muslims rejoiced and danced when they saw the humiliation and finally the agonizing death of that famous Ethiopian Christian King, Emperor Haile Selassie, whom the Ethiopian Christians used to call him ጸሐዩ ንጉሥ (the sun king). He was the shield and defender of Christianity; however, the Ethiopian Muslims said when he died: ያጨቛኙ ንጉሥ እንኻን ሞተ (It is good that oppressive king had passed away). In fact, the Ethiopian Muslims, till now, have no respect to all the Ethiopian Christian kings, especially to Emperor Yohannes and Emperor Haile Selassie.

Their second hidden agenda, concealed by their every Friday’s demonstration, is to establish an Islamic government in Ethiopia and to declare their barbaric Sharia law as the permanent law of the Ethiopian Christian land. To accomplish their satanic plan, they need the undivided and complete support of the Ethiopian Christian Church leaders from abroad as well as from home, and, to some extent, they got it from the gullible Church Fathers of the exiled Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church when his holiness, Abune Melke Tsadik, announced publicly on May 12, 2012 in Washington D.C. that the Ethiopian Muslims are the Ethiopian brothers and they are suffering as the Ethiopian Christians are suffering; therefore, according to his conciliatory statement, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church should support their violent demonstration that destroyed the lives of four people and burned a police station.

Supporting the Ethiopian Muslim mob is a risky business for the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church in exile and at home. Any change that comes through the Ethiopian Jihadist Muslims is not good for the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church and for all the Ethiopian Christians. Have you seen what the Libyan Muslims, after they have been liberated by the Western Christian power from their oppressive government, desecrating the Christian war graves from World War II? They broke and smashed into pieces any cemetery that has a cross or the Star of David on it.

In the same way, if the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church, blindly and without thinking about the future outcome of the Ethiopian Jihadist Muslims’ demonstration, supports, approves, and blesses the Ethiopian Islamic mob, and if this Islamic mob comes to power, the first thing this Islamic mob does is to convert the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Churches to Islamic Mosques as the Turkish Muslims did to Sophia Hagia, the famous Christian Cathedral in 1453.

If Change is needed in Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Christians under the spiritual leaderships of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church are able to bring change without the help of the Ethiopian Jihadist Muslims who have their own hidden agenda.

Making an alliance with the Ethiopian Muslims in order to topple down the Meles government is not the proper way. The Ethiopian Muslims have never been satisfied with any Ethiopian secular or spiritual Christian leaders for 1400 years, and they will never stop complaining until they have established their Islamic empire in the Christian land of Ethiopia.

By supporting the Ethiopian Jihadist Muslims who call the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church Christian a cult-worshipper, an idol-worshiper, a Jewish-man (Jesus) worshipper, and a worshipper of three gods (the trinity), the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church Fathers abroad, for their own nostalgia to go back home as quick as possible and to reclaim their lost glories or status, have committed a big blunder, standing in front of a camera and calling the Muslims “our brothers.” Muslims have never been brothers to Christians, and they will never be because their Quran warns them never to be friends to the Christians and to the Jews (Quran 5:51).

Muslims, whether they are Ethiopian Muslims, whether they are Sudanese Muslims, Egyptian Muslims, Somalis Muslims, Saudi Muslims or any other counties Muslims, they are always the same Muslims: traitors, cheaters, killers, human traffickers, and sex offenders.

The Ethiopian Muslims glorify Mengistu Haile Mariam, ridicule Emperor Haile Selassie, denounce Ate Tewodros, curse Emperor Yohannes, disparage Menelik II, and dehumanize the deacons, the clergies, the debteras, the Memhirs, the bishops, the archbishops, and the patriarchs of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church. They have started doing this after they saw their number is in millions, and they can now stand up against the establishment of the Christian kingdom of Ethiopia. When their number was low, they had never complained; they were very friendly and very quiet: they have now started shouting “Allah Akbar” and burning Churches; therefore, we should not call them “our brothers and our sisters.” One cannot be a brother to a Muslim traitor and to a Muslim killer.

Let us not be involved in a Muslim cause that has its own demonic agenda to overthrow the Christian kingdom and to establish its caliphate in the Christian land of Ethiopia.

When ever Muslims see a weakness in a Christian country, they go into that country, and by using its weakness, they declare their own Islamic government in that country. The Ethiopian Muslims are very aware of the multifarious weaknesses in the Ethiopian orthodox Tewahido Church. One of the great and alarming weaknesses in our Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church is the division of the Church. We have now three patriarchs: one in Ethiopia; one in Eretria, and the other is in exile. Of course, Eritrea is a free country, and it can have her own patriarch; however, Ethiopia is one country, and it should not have two patriarchs – one patriarch demonizing the other one. The split of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church has tremendously helped the Ethiopian Jihadist Muslims to demonstrate and to try to takeover the Ethiopian Christian government by force. Many Muslim countries have promised the Ethiopian Muslim Jihadists to continue their demonstrations until they achieve their main goal – to destroy the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church and establish their own Islamic government.

I really do not comprehend why a highly educated person in our Church supports the Ethiopian Islamist Jihadist movement. There is an Amharic adage that says: “አያ በሬ በሬ፤ ሰርዶውን አየህ እንጂ ገደሉን ሳታይ” (O ox, ox, you saw the grass, but you didn’t see the cliff).

Those leaders of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church who have approved the Ethiopian Jihadist Muslim movement think they have got a best cause to remove Meles Zenawi from his power, but they have failed to see the cliff they are going to fall from if the Ethiopian Muslim movement succeeds and removes the Woyanne government and puts Ethiopia under the Sharia law. These Ethiopian Church leaders must go to Egypt and stay there for few weeks and observe what kind of life the Egyptian Coptic minority Christians are living. Once Ethiopia is in the hands of the Ethiopian Muslims, there will be no turning back to Christianity. There will be no more bishops, archbishops, and patriarchs in Ethiopia: they all will be replaced by Imams, Mullahs, and Sheiks. Therefore, it is a big mistake to endorse the hidden enemy of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church – the Ethiopian Jihadist Muslim movement which is taking place in every Muslim Mosque in the Christian land of Ethiopia.
